NO UNJUST PREFERENCE.

SOUTH AMERICAN MEAT EXPORTERS \NXIOUS. DANGER OF AUSTRALIAN COMPETITION.’ By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.—Aus. and Ts.Z. Cable Atffik f (Received October 22, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, October 21. The Geneva correspondent of the “ Daily TelegTaph ” states:—“ At the Customs Conference, delegates from Brazil and Uruguay asked Britain for an explicit statement that she did not intend to discriminate in favour of the Dominions to the prejudice of contracting parties in connection with Article V. of the Convention. “ Sir Harold Smith, K.C. for Britain, replied that the Imperial fiscal policy was outside the sphere of the Conference. “ After an assurance had been given that there would be no unjust discrimination, the demand was withdrawn. “ The Uruguayan delegate was mostly concerned about the export of meat, in which Australia might become a serious competitor if Mr Bruce’s plan was adopted by the Imperial Conference.”
