Evans, speaking from the balcony of the pavilion, on behalf of Mrs Evans and himself, extended a hearty welcome to ail. It was tbe fourteenth opening day since the club started. He wished to thank tbs club for Che honour it had done him by putting him in the position he held that day. He could assure members that lie would spare no efforts to justify the confidence placed in him. To follow in the footsteps of his predecessors was no light responsibility. The resignations consequent upon a changing population had been more than counterbalanced by 'lie influx of new members, and the club was to be congratulated in having one of the largest memberships in or about Christchurch. A substantial addition had been made to the club's grounds which would enable fulllength heads to bo played from each end. The work ha-d been retarded owing, chiefly, to the very wet winter. A gratifying feature of the year was the interest displayed by the Indy friends of the club. The success of the socials and jumble sales had been entirely due to their efforts. Before formally declaring the season open. Mr Evans made reference to the valuable work done by Mr W. Henley, the green superintendent. Owing to his untiring efforts the green presented the- very fine appearance that day. Mrs Evans then rolled up the first bowl, scoring a jack bowl, and the season was declared open, friendly games following During the afternoon, those present were entertained to afternoon tea by Mr and Mrs Evans, a jazz band playing an enjoyable programme of music.
