COTTON GROWING.
NEED FOR DOMINION CULTIVATION.
By Telegraph —Frees Association—Copyright Keuter's Telegrams. (Received October 12. 8.25 a m.) LONDON. October 11. Lord Derby, addressing the annual meeting of the Empire Cotton Growing Corporation, while declining to discuss the question of preference, stated that lie was of opinion that whatever 1 was done to extend cotton growing in the Dominions it must not be merely advantageous to them. but of the greatest advantage to Britain. He pointed out that white labour was impossible in many parts of the Empire and therefore urged the Corporation to encourage the natives to grow cotton of the best type under the superintendence of experts. He believed that eventually the whole of Britain’s cotton requirements would come from the Dominions.
