GRAND THEATRE.
THE IDLE CLASS,” “ REGGIE MIXES IN.” AND “ THE HOODLUM.”
The management of the Grand Theatre announce the screening of a big triple bill to-day. The three most popular stars in filmdom are featured, namely, Charlie Chaplin. Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Bickford. The golf links are utilised by Charlie Chaplin in us latest comedy, entitled “ The Idle Class,” as the setting for some of the
funniest incidents ever seen in ; comedy. His arrival on the links with Ins tattered bag containing two non descripfc clubs is the signal for the fun ti, start. Ami it starts with a bang keeping up at high speed throughout, he manages to hit the ball all right but ho is not particular in which dir--, tion he whangs it, with the result the. tin- links become as hazardous as “ Nc Man’s Land.” But the golfing inci-
dents are but a small part of “ The Idle Class,” it is packed solid with laughs and yells. Mary Pickford turns burglar for love in “The Hoodlum.” She also turns other things in her transition from spoiled little heiress to gutter urchin and. slum-dweller, and the real character of the girl is brought out by her ccntact with poverty and misery in the slums, and also with this real joy and happiness that exists even amongst the most sordid surroundings. She field that wealth had been robbing her of the greatest joys of life, and that dirty
faced girls arc often happier than clean ones ; the advantages that hurdv gurdy possesses over a jazz band of highly pair performers, and that games in the gutter have even silk-clad snob parties, and above all. that helping others gives more joy than being waited upon by hordes of servants. The world’s sweetheart justifies the title in “ The Hoodlum ” —in it are. ten Mary Pickfrrd’s, each new and refreshing, each distributing JOG laughs to the 1000 the picture contains. “ Reggie Mixes hi.” is the third attraction. This picture is a typical Douglas Fairbanks offering, full of life and action.
