The Star. SATURDAY, MAY 12, 1923. THE JUBILEE OF CANTERBURY COLLEGE.
The celebration of tbe jubilee of a University College is a matter of interest to the people of the Dominion at large, but it is naturally of special moment to the community most immediately concerned. Canterbury College has attained its fifty years of vigorous manhood. It has the congratulations of all its well-wishers, who add their best wishes to their felicitations. The College is an institution of which Christchurch has reason to be proud. It has risen from very small beginnings to a position of great influence and responsibility in the life of the community. Canterbury College men and women are prominently associated with the public service of the Dominion, and also with its professional and commercial interests. It is only natural and right that the younger generation, with the greater facilities and opportunities now available to it, should make its way steadily to the top. We hope that the ideal of service to the community, which has inspired so many Canterbury Collegians of the past, will not be lost sight of. The College itself has been served by men of great distinction and scholarship, and it owes its present high position among University institutions to their foresight and self-sacrifice. It enjoys to-day the esteem, and even the affection, of the people of this city and province, and it may be confidently anticipated that it will be assisted to continue its prosperous career.
