(formerly Miss Mabel Russell. an j actress) in the by-election caused by I the unseating of her husband, who is a National Liberal. Mrs Philipson, who i is very popular, says her chief idea in j standing is to try to hold the seat ! until her husband can contest it again, i which is not "until this Parliament I ceases. She is a Conservative, but j does not think there is much difference : between the parties nowadays, except j the Labour Party. j Captain Philipson. the member for I Berwick, was unseated on account of * corrupt practice on the part of one of 1 his agents. The Judge who heard the . case expressed sympathy with Captain Philipson in the unfortunate position in which he was placed.
