Ihe Waihora, which left Auckland on Thursday, is still en route to Lyttelton. She was sixty miles off the Lyttelton Heads last night. The Breeze did not leave Picton on Saturday on account of the weather conditions. Captain John Jack, who is in command of the C. and D. steamer Port Victor, winch to the rescue of a distressed ship off the coast of South-west Africa a few days ago. has had a long and distinguished career with the Cunard iThe. He was in the oommand of the steamer Port Kembla when that vessel was mined o* towards the latter end The Commonwealth Government steamer Austral plain lias returned to Melbourne in ballaat, after delivering her wheat •argo at Naples. No charter has beeu arranged for the vessel, and consequently she is to be paid off and laid up with other idle steamers of the line now in Hobson's Boy. There are now six idle Commonwealth steamers at Melbourne. It is announced that the Compagnie Navale de l'Ooeanic of Bordeaux, has purchased the steamer Mauritian from the Mauritius Shipping Company, lor the Sydney-Noumea trade. She is a vessel of 2017 tons gross, and was formerly the Glenomera, and before that Never Brothers' Kulambangra. The vessel was built at Glasgow in 1910. and is fitted with electric light and wireless. A crew left by the steamer Eastern on Saturday to bring tho vessel from Saigon. The Cygnet was further delayed by rain on Saturday and is now timed to sail this •veiling for Kaikoura, Nelson and MotuThe Katoa is due to-morrow from Timaru to load for Wellington and AuckThe Kakapo was an arrival on Saturday afternoon from Greymouth, via Timaru, with a part cargo of coal. The vessel on discharging her coal will load for Westport and Greymouth. She is expected to leave Lyttelton to-morrow. The Corinna, from southern ports, arrived yesterday. The vessel loads here I to-day for Wellington, Nelson and New Plymouth. The Calm was dispatched from Lyttelton on Saturday evening for Wellington. The Hurunui, now comnleting her cargo *t Wellington, was to sail yesterday for London, via Montevideo and Las Palmas.
