ELECTION DELAYS.

CHRISTCHURCH NOT WORST CENTRE. In the course of a comparison «* voting systems, Mr J- M’Combs, M.P., has learned that there were thirtyeight candidates for the Auckland City Council and twenty-one seats to be filled, so that the returning officer, in counting the votes fo»* each paper had to make twenty-one separate marks. In Wellington there were thirty-five candidates for sixteen seats, and the same long orocess was necessary in a modified degree. Mr M’Combs contrasts this long process with the comparative simplicity of arranging the papers in the order of first preferences in Christchurch. Both in Auckland and Wellington the whole city was one constituency.
