THE OPENING CEREMONY. The opening; ball was very successful, nearly 100 couples taking the floor. Coloured balloons clustered round each light, and the front of the stage was decorated with evergreens and palms. During the evening Miss Thelma Thompson and Mr Fred RWauchop danced an exhibition fok trot,, and in response to enthusiastic applause, gave an encore. Miss Thomson’s trock was flame and gold shot taffetas, corded on the skirt and finished with clusters of gold leaves. Those present were : Mrs E. Blair, black georgette, with a sequined overdress; Mrs L. 13. Hart, black satin with champagne beading; Mrs C. Smith, cherry jersey silk beaded with crystal beads; Mrs A. Ives, black satin beaded and relieved with tango; Mrs R. Patrick, cream silk with a net overdress; Mrs A. Pearce, black satin; Miss I>. Dunnage, pink satin with overdress of pink tissue; Mrs W. Smithblack satin: Mrs l>eo Moffat, blue crepe de chine prettily beaded; Miss I. Dunnage, tomato-red satin with touches of jade and lace : Mrs R. Coleman, black moroeain relieved with jade ; Mrs H. Kettle, eau de nil morocain with gold trimmings! Mrs S. Kruse, flame satin with shaded rosebuds ; Miss Dawson, peacock green taffetas and lemon trimmings ; Miss Blew, pink crepe de chine with touches of silver: Miss Forrester, mauve satin, trimmed with silver; Miss Sutherland, cerise silk with a purple overdress; Miss Merva Somerset, •••hell pink satin, with a beaded over* r • ; Miss HMoore, vieux rose boi.gaiine silk; Mrs F. Wade, apricot satin with an overdress of sequins; Miss Aileen Smith, shell pink beaded satin and radiun. lace ; Miss G. Blyth, black satin and jade green; Miss L. Church, fuchsia satin mouseline, shot with blue; Miss C. Church, blue and gold .shot- satin mouseline with a pink spray at. waist ; Mrs Church, satin charmeuse, beaded in gold; Mrs C- Sisson, royal blue panne velvet with a black and blue lace overdress; Mis 6 Ruby Guy, jade green crepe de chine draped with gold face. Messrs C. G. Derrett- and S. Munro were M.C.’s ar.d Wright’s band provided the music.
