'f'he Christchurch Miniature Rifle executive meet this evening, the busi ness being to allot the targets to the /arious Hubs renting the range. It is expected that the executive will • also ix the opening date for the commence ment ol the winter tournament. Owing to the large number of teams that will he competing, it will be necessary to -tart as soon as possible, as the secretary. Mr Arthur Tongue, will have a lot of work to do in the matter of pie paring the draw and score cards, it >- essential that entries should Hose with ir the next week or so. The annual meeting of Ward's I.aclies’ Rifle Club was held last week. Mr R. Buchanan presiding over a good attendance of members. The statement pt accounts showed a credit balance which was considered satisfactory in lace of the fact that the club was formed only last year and the initial ex penses were consequently heavy. It was decided to open the season on May 1. and to adopt the five-bull target. Aggregate prizes for fourteen shoots, with four lowest cut-outs, on the first shoot on practice nights, was decide, 1 on. Other conditions to be drawn up later. The following officers wear elected :- - Patron, Mr R. Shand; president. Mrs A S. Duncan; vice presidents. Messrs L. V. Comeriord and V. S. Duncan; captain. Mrs W. Fuller: vice captain. Mrs Salter; honorary sec ret ary and treasurer. Miss E. Buchanan: committee. Mesdume* Weston. Sleeman. Chapman', Smith. Aulsebrook and Buchanan. The ‘Lyttelton Times” Miniature Rifle Club held its inaugural opening on Saturday evening at the association range. Proceedings took the form of a shoot first and a social evening a-kfeer wards. Mr A. (4. Henderson, manager of the " Lvttelton Times’’ Company, performed, the opening ceremony and fired the first shot. In declaring the season open. Mr Henderson, stressed the good fellowship engendered by rifle men. and said that the rifle club should V made flic nucleus of a greater sports organisation amongst the members of the 'company. At supper a number of toasts .were honoured, amongst those present being Mr A. Tongue, secretary ol the Miniature Rifle Association. The Cashmere Club held its weekly shoot last Monday, when there was a large attendance ot members. H. M’El roy with 34 won the Al’Leati iiotty Button shoot . Tim club’s “ grouping competition was won by R. Neill. This cess fill yet held by the Hills club. ' 8c v eral oi the groups were splendid and were onlv spoiled with a strav shot. \Y. Harman was runner-up. The New Brighton Club commenced hotty and possible competitions on Tuesday. Mrs Brooks, of ihe Ladies’ Club, has donated the prize for the latter competition. Messrs Cat-ton. Busche, Time and Manus scored possibles, and each receive one point lor the trophy. They also get a point etch in the cotty competition. The No. ! team shot well in practice. The scores were: ( niton 35. Times 35, Bushche 35, Miinns So, Wear 34, A. i'Uthje 34, Ligiitfoot 34, Cooke 34. Total 276. The club lias outgrown itself, and it was found necessary to have two nights for practice, vis.. Tuesday and Friday. The top scorers for Friday were: J. Buselie 35, Duthie 33 and Tims 33. 4 lie club has again made furthe, alterations to the butts. The targets have been made to slide up and down by means oi weights, and the clocks have been shifted nearer to the targets. This will make the marking much easier, which will be much appreciated by the markers. CASHMERE v. SUMNER. The first club match of the season was fired last Saturday evening, when ( aslnnere journeyed to Sumner to five tlieir annual friendly match with the seaside club. The hills club representatives did not shoot up to their form at practice, and Sumner, having improved on last year’s form, ran out easy winners by nine points. The scores were as follow: Sumner—J. Ednioml.s 35, C. Timbrell 35. W. Horner 34, W Wells 33. J. Ellison 33. C. Roswell 32. C. Hart 31, L. Allen 31. Total 264. Cashmere— H. M’El roy 34. P. Cole 33, C. R. Walker 32. W. Gabb 32, R. Neill 32, S. Hunsley 32, H. Howarth 31, F. C Hogarth 29. Total 255. The Sumner club-captain (Mr J. Edmonds), in proposing the toast of the Cashmere Club, said he was pleased that his club was victorious that evening as it was many year since it had won a match. He hoped that they would have the pleasure of meeting Cashmere again during the seasor and showing them that Sumner were capable of winning for the second time Air C. FT Walker, captain of the Cashmere Club, thanked the home club for the friendly spirit in which the mate had been fired, and for the wav the\ had entertained the visitors that evening. JOTTINGS. J. Buschl is shooting very well at present and should be a tower of atrangth to the New Brighton Club.

I was present at Sumner on Saturday evening when •Jim” Edmonds, the popular captain of the Sumner M.R. Club, put on three consecutive possibles with a. “ Vickers rifle. Derbidge, of the Cashmere Club, last season put on twenty-seven censequtive bulls-eyes with a Stevens rifle that had been in use for three seasons.
