LEAGUE.

TO-DAY’S COMPETITIONS. The grade competitions were advanced to-day with good conditions prevailing though the morning rain had made the surface slippery and foothold precarious. The principal fixture was that between Addington and Sydenham, at Sydenham Park, the first-mentioned being successful by a converted try, though Sydenham had slightly the bc?t of an even game, with the passing and fielding of the backs below standard. Woolst-on proved too good for Linwood and deserved their ADDINGTON V. SYDENHAM. The opening stages bad play in Addingtons twenTy-nve. Brown, Watts, sSymister, and Banders went through, anu Sauaers kicking past Coomber, M'Leoil scored for Banners to goal. The 'Sydenham backs, with a passing ruen, let Molioy to the Addington twenty-five, aud the ball going to Coomber, the latter potted a fine gpa-1. Collie, Cox, and M'Leod were prominent for Addington, but a penalty sent them back. F. King, O’Connor, and H. King broke away, but sent a bad pass to Davidson, which lost a fine scoring chance. From a penalty near half-way Sanders placed a flue goal. The Sydenham backs broke away, but faulty passing lost the chance. A strong rush by the Adding! on forwards carried play back as half-time sounded. On lesuming play went to the Sydenham twenty-five, and from a peualt.y wide out •Sanders just, missed the goal. Matthews, O'Gonuor and Davidson broke through, but Watts cleared aud Brown went, to the home team's territory for Coomber to save. O'Connor, Matthews, aud Davidson broke through, but O’Connor kicked hard and lost a fine chance. Matthews kept his backs going, and a. fine rush had Addington defending. From a good kick by L>avis Smith was nearly over, and Bea.i mont followed suit, but Harvey cleared. Linwood took the attack, and the Lmwooci backs, overrunning the ball, Harvey came up and scored. Kinley just missed the kick. From a scrum on the Linwood line Harper forced. Smith saved his side oy a tricky run. and Corkin helped with a nice kick. After a scramble ou the lino the hall bounced for Thompson to score, Watson’s kick going outside. Fisher was caught in possession, and after neat work by Smith Woolston just forced in times. A fine run, dodging half the team, ea v Ferris over, and Corkin just missed -he kick. The half-time score was: Woolston 6: lan wood 3. From the kick-off Woolston attaceke! and Harris scored a good try ae the result of a pretty run. Ferris converted. Ferrie set up au attack, but scrams relie veil. Ftroug running and a determined effort saw Kelly score score a really brilliant try. but Kinley missed with the kick. Thompson made a strong ran, but was not supported, and Harper and C. Manten cleared. Kelly had a good run down the line, but with only one man to beat rao out. Play was now very even, but the game ended: WOOLSTON . . . ELEVEN LINWOOD . . . .SIX Mr T. Kir ton wag refei'ee. KAIAPOI V. HORNBY. In a good forward game Kaiapoi defeated Hornby by 6 points to S. F. Lynskey kicked three penalty goals. Woodgate scored fov Hornby and Parke< converted.
