LINER DESERTED.
PORTUGUESE MYSTERY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. CAPE TOWN, April 26. In response to a S.O.S. call from the Portuguese liner Mossamedes, homeward bound, which was reported to be ashore hl Cape Frio, the steamer Port Victor pioceedfed to the scene. She found the ’Mofisamedps deserted -and the boats gene. There was no sign of the crew or passengers, numbering 237. The Port Victor searched for thirty miles up the coast, without result. Other ships are engaged in searching. U’he Moesamedes is a steel screw steamer of 4615 tons, and is owned by a Portuguese company. She was built by Messrs O. Stephen and Son, of Glasgow, in 1895.
