Amongst the passenger* who arrived at Wellington by the Manuka was the Bishop of Adelaide (Dr Thomas), who was accompanied by Mrs Thomas. This is their first visit to the Dominion, and his Lordship stated on his arrival that, they were looking forward with pleasure to their three weeks’ holiday in New Zealand. They intend to spend the whole of the time in the North j Island. The Hon G. Fowlds. who has just spent ten weeks at Papua as a deputation from the London Missionary Society, of which he is a member of the Australian Board, returned to New Zealand bv the Manuka. Mr Fowlds, who went down to the Islands in the { Missionary schooner John Williams, j informed a “ Dominion ” reporter that the society was doing splendid work lin the Islands amongst the natives. | Mr J. Hargreaves, the leader of the | English party at the Walla} eclipse (•expedition last September, is at pre- ] sent in Wellington completing his plans | for observing the next solar eclipse on i September 10 in Mexico. Mr Harj greaves is a Fellow of the Royal } Astronomical Society, and is the presi- | dent of the Chaldean Society, with ; headquarters in England. At Wallal j he used the Cort-ie four-inch Aperture 19-foot focal length camera that had Ibeen used at the English expedition to observe tlic 1910, solar eclipse at BoKr.al.
