Mr G'osgravo said they had been engaged in a war involving abnormal expenditure. They bad also suffered big losses through organised sabotage. The rebels had utterly failed in the', attempt to bring economic pressure to bear on the Free State. There woul.l be no appreciable increase in the existing commitments. He was prepared to exhaust the resources of tiie Free State in asserting th© principle of ordered government. The cost of defence of the, people’s liberty was well within their resources. There was no danger of crippling the prosperous development of the country.
