A COLLISION CASE.

ARTIST SUED. A motorist driving his car at the corner of St Albans Street and Papanui Road, last- July came, into collision with a cyclist. To-dav at the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr 11. Y. Widdowson, S.M., Arthur Campbell Harris, Christchurch, land agent (Mr J. B. Batchelor), claimed from S. D. Goldsmith. Burw'ood, artist (Mr C. S. Thomas), the sum of £76 9s 6d as damages sustained on July 13. 1922, through being knocked down by the. de fendant. who was alleged to have been negligently driving his motor car. Tlv* claim included compensation for per sonal injuries and damages to c-lothes and 3. bicycle. The plaintiff said that ho was going along St A lbans Lane towards Pa pan M Road on a bicycle, and as he approach ed the corner and was preparing t'» turn out towards to\i r n <m Papanui Road the defendant came round the corner in his car, taking a Aride turn and gathering him up. He (witness) was on his proper side of the road near the centre. He was knocked down and the car went over one leg. He was lying jammed under the car when someone tried to drag him out, but his other leg was caught. He asked the defendant to back his car in order to free the leg, but instead of backiug, the car Avas driven forward and the leg wo.® caught further and the knee torn. To Mr Thomas: He was unable to go to work for ten weeks. A. B. Lane said he. was near the corner of Rugby Street when the acei dent occurred. He heard the crash of the motor-car striking the plaintiff. It appeared to him that the car was not stopped with the expedition that might be expected. It continued to go forward, dragging Harris with it. The impact took place on the crown of the road. To Mr Thomas: He saw no traffi : that, prevented Harris travelling between the motor-car and the side channel. (Proceeding.)
