RANGIORA NEWS.
The annual meeting ot the Rangiora District Fruitgrowers' Association was held on Wednesday evening, Mr J. M’Leod (president) presiding. There was not a large attendance. Air Painter, Government orchardist, was also present. The secretary presented the annual report and balance-sheet, which stated that the year had been a very quiet one. A good deal of fruit bad been exported at a fairly satisfactory price to growers, although the crop had nor, been a very prolific one. The prospect for the present season was very bright and the crops were heavier than in pre Mr Dallas, Government orchardist for the district, had been appointed to another position. The fruitgrowers expressed their appreciation of his efforts on their behalf, and wished him every success for his future. Air Painter, successor to Mr Dallas, had taken up his duties and was doing his best to assist the growers with the benefit of his knowledge, for which the committee were very grateful. There are now forty- five members of the association. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of 19s Bd. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Mr AY. J. Horne wrote regretting his inability to attend the meeting througu sickness, and a motion of sympathy was passed. The election of officers resulted as follows :—President, Mr J. M'Leod . vice president, Mr J. Oxley: secretary and treasurer, Mr E. K. Bunfield ; auditor, Mr W. A. House; committee, Mess-s F. AY. Gimblett. H. E. James. C. Has* sail. F. Hill, A. V. Kerr and \Y. J. Home. ft was decided to hold the next annual meeting at Loburn. Tlie secretary was voted an honorarium of £o os and one new member was elected. Tfc was resolved to forward the following remit, to the federation :—” That the federation devise some scheme < t issuing a brand for fruit, that can bo withdrawn if anv grower does not keep Tip to the standard that should he maintained in packing fruit under that brand.” At the close of the business Mr Painter addressed the growers and gave them some useful information in reference to some of the insect pests.
