POWER INTERRUPTIONS.

DAMAGE TO SUB-STATIOMS. Owing to the failure of current from I/ake Coleridge on Sunday, the tram service was interrupted for nearly half an hour, and it is understood that the matter has been taken up with the Public Works Department by the tramway authorities. Notification from Lake Coleridge sta tion that power would be shut off for two or three minutes was received oy the Tramway Board on Sunday, but the board’s engineer protested against this being done on a day when traffic was heavy. The power was eventually cut off. and owing to a mishap was not restored for some time. As a result <1 the mishap, damage was done to tintramway equipment at the Fendalton and Cashmere substations. Special messages were sent to all the steam locomotive drivers in the board’s employ calling upon them to report on Easter Monday morning with steam up on. their locomotives. FortunateK. their services were not required, as th .- Fendalton sub-station was got into operation, after the engineer’s staff had worked all night, in time to take the heavy traffic. The Cashmere station did not come into operation till midday, and the delay caused considerable interference with the traffic on the hills. The delav on the hills was due partly to shortage of cars, but also to failure of the current, which compelled reduced speed in the morning. Mr F.
