ANN U AT. CONFER ENCE. (Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL. March 7. Tlie thirty-eighth annual conference of the New Zealand Women’s Christian Temperance Union opened to-day. Delegates were present from all parts of the Dominion. Committee work was carried on during the day. ant; in the evening there was. a public welcome at which the Mayor presided Airs Don. Dominion president, respond ing on behalf of the delegates. Mr J. S. Baxter, on behalf of tin ; local Prohibition League, said that, de I spite the results of the last poll, then 1 would be no truce in the conflict witl | the liquor traffic whatever. Lcgisla tion might be suggested. The liqwo interests would be suggesting legit;la tion that would tie the traffic rourn the people’s necks. He exhorted hi hearers to keen watch and take step to show the Prime Minister and mem hors of Parliament that they would no stand any retrograde legislation i | dealing with the traffic.
