Practice in roller bandaging was followed by an interesting demonstration, given by Miss M’Callum, on the sponging of a patient in bed. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the demonstrator. Alias Alarjorie Black. National Girls’ Department Secretary lor the Y.W.C.A.’s of Australia and New Zealand, passed through Christchurch last week on her wav to Dunedin. Miss Black is going to Wellington at Easter to undertake the leadership of a conference of girls 5 representatives from all the associations of New Zealand. Miss Black has successfully launched a movement in Australia called the Girls’ Citizen Movement, and it is felt that she will have a very large contribution to make to the gilds and young women of this country. , A dance was given to the Hon Luoy •Tellicoe during race week by a committee of Wanganui ladies. It was held at the Lady Jellicoe rooms, and proved a most enjoyable function. Lady Jellicoe wore a frock of the softest shade of jade marocain, handsomely headed in black, with a beautiful diamond necklace, and a band of diamonds in her hair. The Hon Lucy Jellicoe wore a dainty petal frock of peach coloured georgette. Among those present were Mrs Arkwright, Mrs Eric Riddiford, Mrs Ned Pearce and Miss Afarchbanks. of Wellington. A surprise party vieited the home of Airs Talbot. 48, Queen Street, on Saturday- Games were indulged in till a late hour. Music was supplied by Aliases W, Southerwood and V. The Ridgley Select Dance Committee commenced its season on Saturday, in the Ridgley Hall. Armagh Street. The function was enjoyable, and proved a great success. News has been receiver! that Aliss Duleie Alitchell. the popular Ne.w Zealand contralto, has left London, and will arrive in Christchurch early m April. Aliss Afitchell has just completed an interesting and successful season in Loudon, having engagements up to the eve of her departure. On Saturday Air and Airs W. H. Horton held a ” linen shower” e\ening at their residence, 01, Fendalton Road, the guest of honour being Aliss Vera Nankivell, whose marriage is to take place this month. During the evening many enjoyable items were given by Aliss R. Al’Afeekin, Air and Mrs Horton, Air J. Bennett, and Mr and Airs C. J. Smith. Two original competitions, arranged by the hostess, were won by Airs C. Smith and Alms Alavis Nankivell. Aliss V. Nankivell was the recipient of many handsome gifts. That people generally have a warm corner for the interests of children and schools was amply demonstrated when a meeting of ladies and gentlemen, representing the School Committee, parents and staff of St Atatthew’s Victory Alemorial School, and the vestry and parishioners, was held to advance a ; stage* further the scheme lor holding a •monster fair to raise funds required for equipping the school with a piano and shelter sheds. Strong committees of ladies were appointed to organise the following stalls :—Cakes and sweets, afternoon tea. produce and flowers, needlework and fancy goods, children's goods, jumble stall. Men’s committees are to deal with housing, side shows, competitions, smokahles and band. It is hoped to raise about £250 bv the fair.
