NEW ZJ! AT AN D MEAT PRODUCERS’ BOARD. The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board has just received information from its London office that salesmen and buyers are unanimous in their approval of t.he supervision of grading 'by the board and agrre* that very great improvements in grading are already in evidence this season since the supervisors have been appointed. The improvement. of some works lias surprised operators, who state that meat from such works which in previous years had always sold at a substantial reduction is {bis year selling at prices equal to the best. The report goes 011 to state that the action of the board in eliminating shipping parcels of mutton or lamb under 300 carcases has resulted in enormous improvements in the conditions under whicn meat is discharged and delivered. The number of softened carcases, caused hv delay, torn and dirty wrappers and bruised carcases caused by excessive hnndlin?r. have been reduced ami the discharge of ships expedited. Regarding beef covers it is pointed out that beeF with stocking etto covers under hessian opens up bright aud clean, whereas beef by the same .steamers with heavier hessian only is grimy and stained. The report concludes:—“ I have watched the discharge of each steamer with New Zealand meat, and there is still much to be done, hut the shipping companies and t-lie Port of London Authority are anxious to eo-operate with the New Zealand Mea* Producers’ Board to remove these disadvantages.”
