LADIES' TENNIS TEAM.

Last evening the members of the New South Vv ales ladies’ tennis team and the other visiting players who are taking part in the invitation tennis tournament on JBYiday and Saturday were the guests of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis. Association at a jazz evening in Dixieland. The ballroom had been very prettily decorated for the occasion, a huge rose-pink bell being suspended from the ceiling in the centre of the room. The lights were shaded in gold with streamers of royal blue and Sutherland’s Jazz Band supplied up-to-date dance music. Vscrying shades of mauve were x the colours used in the lounge and supper room. The crystal vases on the small tables were set in tulips of violet shade of paper and were filled with pale mauve daisies. The lights were softened with mauve and lavender petals and bowls of carnations and roses were placet! around the room. Amongst those present were :—Aliss Lance (New South Wales), pretty gown of mauve satin cut on long straight lines and caught on the hips with wheel motifs in. a slightly darker shade. Alias Gray (New South Wales), frock of blue and silver shot taffetas, the full skirt drawn into a narrower shirred hem; Aliss Lloyd (New South Wales), black satin gown with sleeves and side panels of radium lace'and a girdle of brightly-ooloured tissue flowers; Aliss Doris Fenwick (Hawke's Bay), amber taffetas with corsage and sleeves of gold lace; Alias Arita Howe (Wellington), deep vieux rose satin with tiny frills on tho hips ; Aliss Ray blue and red shot taffetas with tight corsage and very full skirt; MiSs Marjorie Alacfarlane (Auckland), black taffetas with °°rj>age of blue sequins and a. trail of pale pink flowers; Alls George Ait ken, rose, mauve and silver shot tissue veiled in fuchsia tulle; Mi&s Enid Minty. Mack tulle over satin with a cluster of flowers at the waist; Airs G. van Aach, lavender satin with an underskirt of exquisite lace; Airs Oecil Murray biscuit georgette richly beaded in gold and henna ; Miss Edie (South' land), uncommonly pa itemed velvet gown in black and blue. with, sash of rose coloured tulle; Airs G. P. Steele golden brown s*tm, with sleeves and panel* of gold lace; Aliss Seay, viestix rose satin and lnce with a trail • f flower*; Mies Frances Ora croft ‘Wilson, steel blue taffetas with an overskirt of cream lace; Miss Barbara Cowlishaw, fuchsia georgette heavilv patterned in gold j Mias. Doris Croc reft Wilopn* powder blue taffeta*, petal frock; Mrs Warren Fisher, silver embossed satin and tulle; Mrs William Anderson, lemon, satin and lace, the waist defined by » girdle of flowers; Mias Thelma McCarthy, silver tissue veiled in jade green tulle; Mis* M.
