Peter A mans took charge at the five furlong post, attended by Lady Bruce, and going on won comfortably. Oranga’s jockev lost a stirrup and pulled up. while* Miss Meiva fell, which occurrences gave Peter A mans every chance, (he winner promise's to be useful, though he is rather high strung at present. Dancing Doll was favourite for the Kaikohe Handicap, which attracted twenty runners, though support was well distributed. Polani was first to begin, but Matatour soon displaced her. Dancing Doll, Lady Merriwee, Utakura and .Just Quietly also being prominent. Racing round the turn Malatour was well clear of Dancing Doll, Just' Quietly, Rosullus and King Peßicule. ’ The leader went on to win nicely. King Pellicuie and Rosullus finished ou well, Dancing Doll being fourth. Of eight starters for the County Handicap. Broad wood was best supported. Cool Stimulants was soon in front, his nearest attendants being Crowhurst, Landslide and Namutere. Entering the straight Cool Stimulants was leading from Landslide, Broadwood and Miss LucuHus. Going on m good style. Cool Stimulants won comfortably, Landslide easily holding Broadwood. Namutere was close up fourth. The winner has shown consistent form of late and should win again before long. He lias plenty of size and should carry weight well. The five furlong sprint race, the Russell Handicap, produced thirteen two and three-year-olds. Sleepy Sol being best supported. Nocturne and Sheffield were the early leaders, and they led round the turn, with Monday, Sleepy Sol and Shebang handy. Once in line for the post, Sheffield 'drew out to win comfortably. Shebang finished close up fourth, with Sleepy Sol and Monday following. The winner is. a useful sort, who should develop with age. The Bay of Islands Cup was a good race. Refinement was first selection but plenty of support was forthcoming for Loyal Trish. Boomerday. Ruapapa and Perfect Day. Some bumping at the start caused Ruapapa: to lose his rider. Loyal Irish shot to the front. Refinement, Boomerday, Poteen and Stork following. Going along the hack stretch Boomerday raced to the front and led into the straight from Loyal Irish. Royal Abbey and Refinement. In tbe run to the post Loyal Irish, Refinement and Stork all challenged, but Boomerday held them off in good style. Of the six runners for the Kawakawa Handicap. Amiform was a good favourite, with Infante, Golden Bubble and Bretland also well supported. It was an exciting race. Golden Bubble made the pace until entering the straight, when Coo] Stimulants and Amiform challenged. In a great struggle down the straight, the two last-named passed the post locked together, with Golden Bubble well beaten. and Quaestor fourth Amiform has shown greatly improved form of late and should go a distance later on Narrow Neck was a good favourite for the Maromaku Handicap, with Te Akitai. Akitai and Lady Kerman showed pro mi sing form. A surprise was recorded in the Welter Handicap, the concluding event of the meeting. Sir Otway coming through at the finish in fine style to win decisively. Gold Jacket was favourite in a field of seventeen, with Gold Plane. Archie, Pentagram and Bitholia all well backed Sir Otway being fourteenth in public estimation. Tressor soon rushed to the front, followed by Pentagram. Canowindrn and Royal Abbey. The field bunched entering the straight. Then Royal Abbey got through on the rails and looked like winning, when Sir Otwav came along with a great rattle and won handsomely.
