President O’Bregon has ordered the expulsion of Cardinal Filippi, the Papal delegate, within three days, declaring that the Federal authorities in future would take steps to prevent violation of the law by the Catholic Church, thus not depending on the enforcement of these laws by the State authorities. This is considered the first movement against 'the alleged Catholic aggressiveness. The order has caused a storm of criticism throughout the country, ■which! isi universally Catholic. A previous message said: —Because the Papal delegate to Mexico (Cardinal Filippi), unveiled a statue of Christ in the open air, the event being attended by thousands of Mexicans, and thus violated the law of 1857. which forbids the celebration in public places of religious ceremonies. President O’Bregon uttered a warning declaring: “We make no discrimination between the religions, of Protestants and other religionists. If they violate the laws the Government will proceed in the same way against them. The Mexicans attending the unveiling will be punished, and the foreigners deported. He called the Papal delegate a pernicious foreigner. It is understood that the delegate will be expelled from Mexico.
