THE SHIPPING TROUBLE Over two hundred unionist se&me.l ; attended a meeting at the Oddfellows’ i Hall, Lyttelton, yesterday morning %ct , receive correspondence from the secx\>* j tary of th© Seamen’s Union, at Welling- ; ton regarding th© present shipping ! trouble. The meeting lasted two hours. Questioned afterwards, thi local delegate (Mr F. NewfLeld) stated j that there was nothing to report*. It j was learned, from another source, however, that tbe men wore not yet ready I to go back to work under the present J conditions. It was also stated tha* j the executive of the Seamen’s Union j would be meeting again with the euvpioyers at Wellington this week. The Canopus completed her annual . overhauling yesterday and will sign on ] a free-labour -crew* to-day, MAGISTRATE'S COURT, (Before Mr W. T. George Staoey, a second offender* fo?* j drunkenness was fined 10s. William Henry Briggs, a seaman, charged with disorderly conduct while drunk was fined £l.
