DAZZLING LIGHTS PROHIBITED.

Danger to road traffic at night has caused Governments throughout the . world to introduce regulations to proMbit the use of dazzling motor headlights, but it has been found impossible to strictly enforce the law, for the verv good reason that hitherto no effective anti-glare device has been produced which provided the requisite road lighting. There are scores of anti-glare contrivances on the market, and the extent to which they eliminate glare can be generally measured by the reduction they bring about in the quantity of light thrown on the roadway. A new scientific discovery based on a novel application of the principles of optics, named Flatlite, is an. entirely new type of reflector. It is totally different from all other anti-glare devices. Flatlite uses no lens, but a piece of plain glass. Flatlite takes tho whole of the light produced by the electric bulb, and, after rendering it harmless to the eye, projects it in a flat fan-shaped beam on the roadway. Flatlite sends forth a flood of glareless light in a V-shaped beam, clearly defining all objects within its range without confusing the eyesight of man nr beast. Flatlite gives that strong and far-reaching beam of light that is necessary for road illumination to suit modern requirements, and at the same time it ensures the safety of oucoming traffic by absolutely eliminating that eye-para-lysmg dazzle which is the dread of all road-users. With Flatlite road illumination, both the driver of the car and persons meeting it can, at all times see the road perfectly, and everything oh it. Flatlite is the nearest approach to daylight driving. It eliminates the dangers cf driving in hilly country. It is impossible to turn the car into darkness when rounding corners. Flatlite complies with the most stringent traffic regulations of any country. and places the motorist in the position of travelling at night along a carpet of light that- is a guarantee of safety, while the entire absence of glare changes the usual anathemas of roadusers into warm approval. The ideal road light, previously impossible, has now been produced. Flatlite is an Australian invention. Sets of Flatlite are now procurable. The Christchurch agents (Suckling’s Garage, 117, Worcester Street) are prepared to fit Flatlite to existing lamps on trial. 9
