THE TEST TEAM.
TO THF, EOT TOP.. Sir, No w that the Xew Zealand team has been chosen there is sore to bo some comment, and not without justification. (an anyone suggest why Auckland should have six representatives and Canterbury only one—why -M Leod and (»arrard are given preference to Patrick or bambert and Sandman? Patrick is batting up to his best form at. present, and bambert has just demonstrated his ability by two lino innings against the Englishmen. Garrard failed to take a wicket against MacLaren’s team in Auckland; yet he finds a place in the team. Sandman heads the bowling list for most wickets in test cricket for New Zealand -viz.. •VI and he rarely fails to come off in big cricket with either bat or ball. It may be argued that preference has been given to youth, but let me say that Sandman is still in his prime. He was young when he first commenced to play representative cricket—a fact which several do not realise since lie has been playing for several seasons. Tt is also difficult to follow why Galland is given preference for twelfth man to either of the two batsmen previously mentioned.—T am, etc., NOT Abb AUCKLAND.
