MR H. T. ARMSTRONG, M.P.

COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL. A complimentary dance and social was given to Mr H. T. Armstrong, M. P. for Christchurch Hast. in the Lawson Street Hall last night by his committee and supporters. Among those present were: Messrs E. J. Howard. M.P.. D. C Sullivan, M.P.. and J. M’Combs, M P., and Messrs A. Man hire and E. H. Andrews a* representatives of the City Council. Mr E. E. Langley, chairman of Mr Armstrong’s committee, presided. The chairman said they had gatherer that night to pay a personal compli ment to Mr Armstrong, who since boyhood had fought the battle of th> worker. He had never counted th j cost, but struggled always towards thj

good of the workers’ betterment. He had now received the highest reward that his countrymen could pay him. Mr Langlev then presented Mr Armstrong with a sharing outfit, as a recognition of his worth, from friends in the electorate After making the presentation Mr Langley said that all through the rears oi struggle Mrs Armstrong had always helped in the work, and she, too, de served recognition. She was then presented with a ~old locket. Mr Sullivan said that it was a pleasure for him to welcome “ Tim ” Arm--r-.ong into the Labour representatio i of Parliament, and he knew that h* would carrv on the fight of the worker in New Zealand with the same zeal that he had done in the past. .Messrs Howard and M’Combs also paid tributes to Mr Armstrong, and expressed their belief that he was valuable addition to the fighting forca of Labour in the country. In returning thanks Mr Armstrong said that the victory in Christchurch. East was not a personal one for him. The seat had been won through th * work of many years, and those who ha I gon before were quite entitled to the compliments. He was fortunate enough to be the candidate when the time fo. Labour cam v. He appreciated the honour conferred upon him. and pro mised that he would remain true to th-' people, and true to those tv ho supported them.
