At to-day’s meeting of the Canterbury Education Board, Mr W. A Banks moved that hearty Christmas and New Year greetings should be ac corded the board’s staff and the newspaper reporters. Mr T. Hughes seconded this and after Mr G. Arnut-
age had added his word of praise to the reporters, the motion was carried unanimously. In the Education Board’s board room this morning there was on exhibit a very fine display of woodwork made by children attending public schools throughout Canterbury. \a inlaid tray, the work of Hokitika and Grey mouth pupils, was a particularly good piece of handiwork. A collection of the work of public school chtl dren of Now Zealand will be made and sent to the Toronto and British Exhibition.
At to-day’s meeting of the Canterfury Education Board the chairman. Mr G. W. Armitage. said he thought they should congratulate two of thoimenibers, Messrs E. IT. Andrews and H. 0. Lane, in having come through the battlefields of Christchurch North and Christchurch South sound in wind and body. They had fought well an I Jhad come th Rough apparently undamaged. Mr P. Fraser had stated that some of the most stupid men in New Zealand were members of th • House and he thought it was a matter for congratulation that members of th* board had such a lucky escape. Mr Armitage’s remarks were received with loud laughter.
At an adjourned meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Bertie Arnold Ward, builder, Christchurch held yesterday, it was stated that the amount owing was £2600. and that the assets would only be sufficient to pay a dividend of ahout 7d in the £1 Ward, it was reported, accepted contracts at serious losses and from th.? beginning to the end lie did not keep proper books. A creditor said the whole thing was a case of gross recklessness. Ward had finished up by losing £2OOO of the creditors* money. After further discussion, it was decided that the case should he put in f o the hands of the Crown Prosecutor for investigation.
