The engagement is announced of Aliss Sara Palmer Chapman, daughter of Mr and Airs Painter Chapman, of Papa nui, to Air C. M. Pinfold, eldest sou he Rev J. T Pinfod. D.D., and Mrs Pinfold, Karori, Wellington. Girls under sixteen who are not accompanied by their father, mother, or a duly appointed chaperon, will be refused admission to dances, private or public, according to a decree just issued bv the Prefect of the Eure Department of North-Western France (states the “Daily Alail ”). The prefect, who considers that dancing has been re sponsible for much immorality, also prohibits the serving of any alcoholic drinks to such girls at public dances, llis decreei imposes severe penalties on those responsible for u breach of the regulations. She carried a bouquet of white roses, Christmas lilies and ferns. Aliss Ada Alatheson, friend of tiie bride, was bridesmaid. She wore a pretty frock of pale blue crepe de. chine and cream lace. Her hat was of black, trimmed with French flowers and fruit, and her bouquet was of pink sweet peas. The church was prettily decorated by friends of the bride. Air Laurie Schumacher was host man. The reception was held in the Selwvn Street Hall, where about 50 people sat down to breakfast. Airs Brightmore received her guests in a smart tailored costume of black and white check and smart little hat of grey and French flowers.
