John Fry. a third offender, was fined 40s, in default seven days’ imprisonment. For a breach ol ,his prohibition order he was fined a further 40s. POLICE v- PUGILISTS. Charles Henry Rridgos pleaded guilty to a charge oi liavimr. committed a breach of the peace in Moorhousc Avenue. He was lurthcr charged with re ► isting Constable W. Houston in the execution of his duty. The constable said that last night lie saw Bridges lighting another man He urrested the meu and was taking them clown Manchester Street. Bridges got away, but alter a brief chase lie caught hjjn again and when he tried to slip an the handcuffs the accused struggled, but- in the end ho was secured The fight between the two men lasted about two minutes. ? Tho accused : My wind wouldn’t* last that long. Bridges was fined 20s. in default nt-ven days’ imprisonment on the first charge, and 40>. m default fourteen days’ on the second •Tames Matthews was charged with • instructing the police ■The constable said that when he was attempting to arrest Bridges. Matthews liad tried three times to drag him awa . and in the end he was successful. When he was handcuffing Bridges the accuse 1 hit him in the ribs Bub Inspector Simpson said that th-* obstruction was not a very serious one.
