Marion is incensed by threats that farmer witnesses at the Herrin massacre trial will be killed. A secret organisation of farmers has been formed. This organisation has announced that, for every farmer witness killed, the organisation will taK© toll of ten of the attackers. One witness broke down and wept, and begged to b© excused. He explained that, owing to apprehension of attack, he feared for the safety of his family.
