General Sir George Montague Harper. whose New Zealand division recaptured Bap&une in August. 1918. was killed while motoring at Sherborne. Dorsetshire. His wife was severely injured. 'Hie oar skidded into an embankment and turner! over, pinning General Harper and his wife underneath. Lieutenant-General Sir George Montague Harper. K.C.8.. C. 8., D. 5.0.. wa> fifty-seven years of age. Ho entered Hie Army in 1884. became captain in 1892. lieutenant-colonel in 1007. colonel in 1911. He served in South Africa, 1899-I*loo (mentioned in dispatches four t.imee. Queen’s medal, four clasps. D. 5.0.) He served in the European Wir from 1914 till 1918. He w.-i- mentioned in dispatches, created a C’.B. and K.C.8.. and promoted to the rank of major-general. He was also u Commander of the Legion of Honour.
