An old identity, Mr John Rose, of kilbirnie. died on Wednesday, at the age of 83 years. lie was well known in Wellington, and some years ago was a prominent building contractor in the > ity. Mr Rose was born at Hobart, and came to New Zealand early in the sixties for the. benefit of his health He was in the 'South Island tor some, years, being one. of the pilgrims to Gabriel’s Gully during the gold rush, ant * * n Wellington on Anniversary Day, 1860.
