GOOD LIBERAL PROSPECTS. AIR WIL FO RD INTER Y lEWEI). (Special to the “Star.") WELLINGTON, December 4. •• 1 have had a wonderful trip, and never lelt litter in my life,” declared the Liberal Labour leader, Mr Yvilford, who has completed a strenuous Do minion tour, and will devote the remaining days now to his electorate, whic-h will be favoured 'with a visit fiom the Prime Minister on Wednesday nigh.;, if Mr Massey’s health permits. Mr Wilford went on to say; ‘‘Mv reception, as you will* have seen, has pleased me beyond expression. Whether it be in Waikato, the city of Auckland the Hawke’s Bay district, the West Coast or the South Island, it has all been the same—generous welcomes, (splendid audiences and resolutions «>f confidence, with wishes for success. I am satisfied that immense good has been done to our party by my meeting fihe people face to face. I have now addressed audiences in Dunedin, Christchurch and Auckland, and everywhere I find the keenest interest m our cause. “1 am not going to boa*t what Un-

result will be.” added Mr AVilford. “ No one can predict that with any certainty at all; but I vrill say I never believed, I never imagined, there was such strength of support throughout the country for our side as I have found. AVe have a splendid lot of candidates, and if one were to take their predic tions of success os any criterion of the result one would be led away into making extravagant prophecies. This Ido not intend to do. The small farmer throughout New Zealand, or at least wherever X have been, seems to have changed since three years ago. In the country districts we will largely depend upon his vote and support, and, while • in the cities it is impossible to estimate the results with any accuracy, in scattered country districts energetic committees have more opportunity of sizing up the position. T am delighted with ■ the effect my tour has had in assisting our candidates by showing that in what ever part of New Zealand I went .1 received emphatic resolutions of approval of our policy. This naturally helps all our candidates. I have received notifi cations from many of them to that effect. Nearly every resolution passed ' at mr meetings, including Auckland ■ and Christchurch, contained s* declaration that the lime is ripe fo r a chan go of Government.”

VOTE SPLITTING. AIR MASSEY PERTURBED.. (Per Press Association A WELLINGTON. December 4. “With the amount ol vote splitting threatened.” says Air Massey in a statement to-day, “it is almost a certainty that seats will be lost to the Government. While any elector has a perfect right to offer his services as a candidate, there are such things as loyalty to party and country. I take the liberty of suggesting, therefore, that those electors, hy whatever politi cal names they call themselves, should not allow their votes to he jeopardised by candidates with little chance of elec tion. but who. by taking votes from stronger candidates, jeopardise the chances of the latter and weaken the Government’s position. should not he taken hy those who admit that the Government has done wonderfully well.” .
