Cross-bred are meeting with an excellent demand from Yorkshire, and America is taking fine and medium sorts. Prices firm at last quotations. BUTTER AND CHEESE. A FOUR MONTH'S TOTAL. (IVbr, Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 5. During November, the dairy division graded 192,490 cwt of butter. compared with .150,314 last year, an increase of 27.88 per cent. The total butter graded during the four months was 518,099 cwt, compared with 336,325, a year ago; an increase of 54.04 per cent. .Last mouth’s total comprised 178,114 cwt. of salted and 14,376 cwt of unsalted butter. The cheese graded in November totalled 161,771 cwt.. compared with 172,5 ft) cwt, last year: a decrease of G. 25 per cent. The four month's total is 236.073 cwt (including 147,732 white, and 88,341 coloured), against 314.175 cwt. for a, corresponding period last season; a decrease of 24.85 per Converted into butter fat equivalent, these figures show an increase of 30.27 per cent for the four months just ended, compared with last season. ASH BURTON STOCK SALE. Special to the “ Star.” ASHBURTON, December 5. One of the most animated mutton sales of the year was experienced at the Ash. burton Yards to-day. prices going considerably over the already advanced rates. Both ewe and wether mutton were in short, supply, and quality was particularly good The average price realised was in the vicinity o/ 7d per lb. Wethers brought from 24s Gd to 355, representing a. splendid price. Woolly wethers sold at 26s 7d and shorn ewes sold at from HOs 4d to 355. Seven lambs scold, at 29s Gd. Only one pen of stores was offered, comprising 224 half-bred sound arid failingmouth ewes, with 225 lambs. The ewes were inborn and in poor condition, and the lot were passed in at 17s 9d. The cattle sale was lifeless.
