By

ARGUS

Mr B- Heppner's b ja B-ouen, by Bezonian—Lady Laddo, syrs. Sst 111 b. Rouen, started four timee in the autumn of Ins two-year-old season, winning at the Manawatu and Hawke 5 i Bay meetings. At three years he bad a busy time, as he competed in twenty races, of which he won seven, while lie was placed in eight others, so that his form was very consistent. In the spring he wae confined to sprint races, his first three wins including three events at six furlongs, the best < f them being in the Nainai Handicap at Trentham. In the summer he successfully tackled nine furlongs in the Liverpool Handicap at. Awapuui. Next came tho Thompson Handicap, in which he beat a strong field over a mile it Trentham. A week later. at the Manawatu meeting, he won the l.ong-

Mr R. A. M’Kenzic‘3 b z Kilgour, by Kilbroney—Angelina, 6-yrs. 7et 51b. 1 ICiigour commenced racing as a two-year-old but in four starts his only money earning effort was third place in the Autumn Nursery Handicap at Riccarton. It. was after that race , that his owner secured Kilgour j from his breeder, Mt .1. B. Reid. { At three 'years Kilgour started twenty-one times, for two wine and seven places. He opened out by winning a maiden race at Dannevirke and autumn had arrived when he scored his other success, in a hack handicap at Kgmont, and he was still a very moderate performer at the end of that Early in his four-year-old season Kilgour won the Masterton Cup, Dainty Step and Ronetter being in the places. That was his only win. but he was second to Molyneux in the chief event at Otaki, while at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting he was second to Rude in the Fendalton Handicap.

A few weeks later, under 9s t- 41b. he was second to Sunart Sst 101 b in the Wellington Handicap and on the second day of the meeting ho ran Amythas to a neck in the Champion Plate. He failed badly in the New Zealand Cup and for the remainder of the season he had to be content with a few rots of place money. In two starts this season he has failed to make any show, and on appearances lie is a long way below hiu form of last spring-. Even at his best "Rouen would n<~u quite take the eye ;jc a two-miler. He has raced well un to a mile and three furlongs, but the New Zealand Cup journey. on the trying Riccarton course, is likely to find him wanting.

That the form was not correct, however, lie demonstrated on the second day, when he won the Metropolitan Handicap, with Royal Star and Foo Chow in the places. Ho showed on that occasion that he could stay well. The remainder of his form last season was poor. This season Kilgour has started twioe without being in a place. On the whole, his form is not impressive. as his claims to notice rest on only a few races, on some of his running he is decidedly a moderate. Tfc is in his favour that he lias on more than one occasion shown a partiality for the Riccarton course, hut ho has such a poor record during thn» past twelve months, since he won the Metropolitan Handicap, that he cannot be recommended. On .the other hand, many people will give him a chance on account of his staying credentials
