A SPLENDID OFFER.

FURNISHING THE HOME. A VERY FINE EXHIBITION. It is a very hopeful augury when a manufacturer or producer takes the consumer or general public into hi* confidence. On that ground alone the action of Archhold Bros., Ltd., in thi owing their Manchester *tre<it workshops open from now on for public inspection is a lead that one ieels cannot but redound to the general good. It was an excellent idea to hold an exhibition of the firm’s work a coin- J prehensive display of furniture and furnishings— and the invitation to attend 'the spacious shops at 336. Manchester Street was last night availed of by an exceptionally large crowd of deeply interested persons who were shown household furniture in all stages of completion. About 3000 people attended between « o’clock and 9.30. What strikes the fancy of the public in the latest progressive step taken by this flourishing firm is that the lines in which the firm deals from now on will be available to all at the lowest workshops rates. Archhold Bros, will sell straight to the private individual, thus eliminating middlemen’s charges. It is rather superfluous to stress the fact that the firm’s work is all a model of neatness and quality, capped off, in the eye of the public,, by tho ve-jry moderate prices. Of course Christchurch is in the middle of a building boom at present, and large numbers are ‘‘ setting up house.” One could search a long time in the ordinary channels and remain unsatisfied in the matter of securing the necessary furnishings, but the opening of Archbold’s factory will provide that avenue for successful purchase that has been wanted for so long. When the continuous streams of people were going through the works last night frequent and highly flattering remarks were heard about the quality of the workmanship displayed in every article of furniture one can think of. Really, the showroom, even to the layman, provides a striking example of what a high standard local production has reached. A now departure is the making in a big way of the woodwork portions of gramophones, and these exhibits last night were very tasteful. Passing through the showroom one came to the room containing builders’ fittings, the polishing shops, cabinet room and machinery room. Beyond this again in the lighted yard were the big stocks of seasoned timber. All the electrically-driven machinery was going for tho benefit of the public. who found the whole of the shops airy and well-ventilated. It is a public service of no mean proportions that Archhold Bros, are performing in their latest move, and their open invitation to the public from now ton to view the furniture and works is a guarantee that the firm want still further to establish cordial relations with the public with the idea of giving them advantages and concessions that mean so much in these days. It is not inappropriate to mention that Messrs Archbold employ about sixty hands, who work under the most healthy conditions possible. All dust particles from the machines are drawn away by suction fans, and as a consequence the shops are among the pleasantest for working conditions that one could wish for. q
