“STAR” CHRISTMAS NUMBER.

SERIES OF COMPETITIONS PROSE, POETRY AND PICTURES. A series of competitions has been arranged for this year’s Christmas number of the “ Star.” Th© competitions will cater for the story writer, the poet (senior and junior), and the photographic artist. The subjects of the competitions and the prizes offered are as follows: 1. ORIGINAL STORY, not to exceed 2000 words. First -prize £5 os, second prize £3 3s. 2. ORIGINAL POEM, subject “ Coming of the Pilgrims,” First prize £3, second prize £2 3. CHILDREN’S POEM, any subject. open to children under 14. First prize £1 Is, second prize 15s. 4. PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDIES relating to Canterbury. Subjects may be chosen from the seaside (yachting, boating or bathing), the Avon, the Port Hills, the farming districts or the mountains. The prints must be suitable for reproduction and not less than postcard size. Prizes £2 10s, £2, £1 10s, £l. Others accepted for reproduction 7a 6d each. The awards in all competitions will be made by the Editor of the “ Star ” whose decision will be final. Entries will be received up to November 27 Each entry should be accompanied by a stamped and addressed envelope, for return if not accepted.
