It 1 was agreed to write to the Lyttelton Marine Baud, thanking them for play- • ing in the streets on the night of the concert. ' HEATHCOTE WAR MEMORIAL. A public meeting of those interest- * od in the Heathcote Valley War Me- ; morial was held in the Club Hall on Monday evening. Mr C. Smith presiding over a fair attendance. The offer of the Heathcote Football Club to hold a dance in aid of tb© Memorial Fund was received with thanks. Mr F. King and Mr and Mrs A. Bettle were elected to the committee. Mr L. Salt was elected secretary in place of Mr O. Smith, Mr Smith having been elected chairman. NON-ATTENDANCE AT DRILL. Eric Sodersten was charged s with failing to attend drill. The police stated that there had been thirteen parades and defendant had attended only six. Sodersten stated that he was nine--1 teen years of age. He was working on the wharf, and every time he had failf ed to attend when working he had sent along a note to the Defence Department, except on two occasions. The police stated that it was his first offence A fine of 10s and 7s costs wm imposed . mmmmmmmmmmmmi
