(Received September *2B. 8.3 a..m.) HOBART. September 27. A groat crowd witnessed the finals of the Australasia el boxing championships. All the contests, except the heavy, were exciting and close. The New Zealanders won the welter, feather and middle divisions, putting up a brilliaut showing. In Ibe welter Hansen was stronger than Neilson*and had slightly the better of a good contest. Tbe New Zealander uaecl both bands defectively, particularly a snappy right. Purdy was hard pressed to beat Ristuccia. who very lively. The New Zealander scored principally with right and left swinge, and proved himself the cleaner ami more experienced boxer. He won by the narrowest of margins. M’Donald and Thomson provided the best contest of the evening. The New Zeala.nder fought fiercely throughout. Thomson bad the better of the first two rounds, but M’Donald outstayed him, using both hands with telling effect. They could not be separated at tbe conclusion of the fourth round, and were ordered to box a.n extra round. Thomson hit cleaner than his opponent, and won by the narrowest margin. The pair were cheered as they left the ring. The Mea.le-STuith bout was another great go, with the New Zealander showing more science. Smith kept him going hard throughout, but he fought cleverly, doing most leadiug and following up with rights to the body and face. Peet was too vigorous and lively for Nolan. • contest was disappointing. Killeen being unable to hit the giant Bran court, who did most oT the scoring.
