WHY DO THEY LAG ?
TO THE BPTTOn. Sir,-—What part are members of the Moderate League taking in the great discussion now raging between the drys and the wets? Why do they lag? Being sick of the liquor trade and suspicious of prohibition, I want to know more about State Control, and whether it has proved the success claimed for it in Carlisle. Surely, if the Moderate League is a genuine concern, it ought to have a lecturer going round the country expounding its views and explaining the situation. Hundreds of people wish to know what system would come into operation in New Zealand if the. State Control issue were carried, whether hotels would serve whisky as well as beer, whether barmaids would be employed, whether there would be a stricter check on consumption, and whether prices would be higher or lower.— I um, eto., IMPERIAL PINT.
