ATTITUDE OF ANGORA.

QUESTION OF ACCEPTANCEph—Press Association —Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, September 2b. The t ' Morning Post's ’’ Constantinople correspondent suggests that the Allied Note will not satisfy either side. The Turks recognise the favourable terms, but the Angora Government will not accept them unreservedly, especially regarding intervention in Thrace and on behalf of minorities. It will also desire to counter-balance the presence of Rumania and Jugo-Slavia at the conference by having Russia, Ukraine and Georgia represented. It is also doubted whether the Greek army, which now is largely independent, will be willing to leave Thraoe. and it is asked how the emigration of Christian Ottoman subjects from Constantinople, under Kemalist threat of persecutions, will be prevented. It is also expected that the Angora Government's answer will reveal the extent to which the Kemaiists are under Bolshevik control . The correspondent adds that it is authoritatively stated that the Angora Government- will absolutely reject any from of control in Thraoe. which must be restored totally and immediately to Ottoman sovereignty. and ‘ holds there is no political or military \ reason why its armies should not march in directly and establish effective administration. Unless this should be granted the armies will pa as on to Constantinople and the Straits, the t neutralitv of which Greece has already violated/ The Angora Government is willing to give guarantees of the liberty of the Straits, but considers that the question should he excluded from peace discussions, consequently the Angora armies remain ready to pursue military operations against Thrace in conformity with the programme. IN EVENT OF REFUSAL. TyONDOX. September 25. The “ Daily Chronicle’s” Paris correspondent understands that if Komal rejects the Allied Note Ttaly and France will withdraw their support from the Turks and join Britain in defending the liberty of the Straits. PRAISE FOR BRITAIN, FRENCH PRESS EULOGISTIC. TURKS WARNEO AGAINST BAD FAITH. PARIS. September 25. The newspapers pay a tribute to Lord Curzon, whose moderation and broad-mindedness preserved AngloFrench unity. There if. also great praise for Britain, the “Gaulois” remarking that only a great nation would be capable of Britain’s action. The newspapers unanimously declare that a it remains for the Turk© to show good faith in return for the trust that the Allies are placing in them, and they warn the Turks against excesses which might arouse the anger of the western world and deprive them of the fruits of viotory. EFFECT OF ALLIED NOTE KEMALISTS WILL AGREE TO CONFERENCE. United Service. LONDON. September 24. Mr Ward Price reports from Canstantinople that it is believed there that the Allied note promising Constantinople. Adrianople and Thrace to the Kemalists will produce an agreement by the Kemalists to the proposed conference, but. it is thought that the suggestion that South Slavia and Ronmania should attend may result in the Turks demanding that Russia, also, glia 11 participate in the negotiations.
