FIRES IN THE CITY.

THREE OUTBREAKS ON SATURDAY NIGHT. The City Fire Brigade was called out io three fires late on Saturday night and early on Sunday morning, and after attending them received a malicious false alarm from a street box. The first coll was received at 0.31 p.m. to Vo. 17, Clarence Road. Riccarton. where a number of detached fowlhouses, owned by Air John Smith, had caught on fire. The outbreak originated in one of the fowlhouses through the explosion of a kerosene lamp in a brooder. Portions of th 3 fowlhouses were destroyed, the damage amounting to about £25. The buildings were not insured. A two-storeyed detached wooden stable at the rear of the Foresters’ Hotel in Oxford Terrace was discovered to be - on fire shortly after half-past ten o’clock, and the brigade received a call at 10.41 p.m. The building, which is owned by NMessrs Ward and Co.. Ltd., brewers, and forms part of the hotel property of which Mr James Shanahan is the occupier, was considerably damaged. The insurances were not available last- night. At 12.31 a.m. yesterday the brigade wns called out to the fire in the tea kiosk in the Gardens, and at 12. a.m. a malicious false alarm was received from the corner of Southampton and .Montrose Streets, Sydenham.
