(Received September 25, 8.5 a.m.) LONDON, September 23. The keenest, disappointment is felt at the failure of the Christmas Island eclipse expedition. The Astronomer Royal at Greenwich has received wireless and cable advice that, after the elaborate and costly preparations, including instruments totalling six tons, the party was unable to take photographs, owing to clouds. The Lick Observatory expedition to Wallal has developed its plates for the investigation ol the Einstein theory.
