Evening Gowns From Paris.
Nothing definite can be said yet of the new season’s fashions, for those at the Grand Prix showed so little change that they could hardly he regarded as forecasts. One thing, or rather two things, are pre.tty pertain though; evening gowns
Bre likely to be long, walking gowns ankle length. If the Venetian ball at the opera can be taken as a shadow of coming evnts. we are likely to have more splendour than ever in the materials for evening dress. Gold and silver tinsel cloth, plain or shot, or interwoven with flowers, were there in such beauty and profusion that it seems impossible for them not to influenco the clothes of the moment. The general outline of evening clothes is likely to continue to he classical, with long skirts and trains. ; and there is every sign of the long waist moderating its transports and
returning to the place assigned to it by Nature. The very young and very slim can afford to place and accentuate the waist line pretty well where they please, but those with more exuberant curves really do better in remaining moderate in their variations on nature. Of course these gorgeous gold and silver brocades are sure to lead to a great deal of splendour in head dress and jewellery, perhaps all the more so
since very few jewels are worn in the daytime. Pearls were especially noticeable at the \ enetian ball, and are likely to be more popular than ever this coming V ith a classically draped gown the hair looks well twisted with apparent simplicity in a bunch on the crown, a la grec A filet of small pearls, or a - head may bo worn, and the diadem is j so becoming that its popularity is likelv ! to continue, especially since it looks right with a straight chemise frock as veil as the classically draped one.
