CHRISTCHURCH. TO-DAY’S CASES. (Before Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M.) A MISSING SPADE. William Joseph Cotter was charged with the theft of a spado valued at 10s Gd, the property of the New Zealand Government Railways. The accused was remanded to appear on Wednesday and: bail for £lO and one surety of £lO was allowed. A RING STRAYS. Ernest Henry Albert Adam (Mr RA. Cuthbert), pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a diamond, and ruby ring "valued at £6 10s, the property of Agnes Adam. Detective-Sergeant D. Connolly said that the accused was a brother-in-law of the complainant. She missed the ring and subsequently saw it in the window of a dealer in Manchester Street. Inquiries revealed that the accused had pawned it for £l. Mr Cuthbert said the accused had been living with his married brother. He took the ring thinking that it was the property of his brother. The accused was convicted and orcTered to come up for sentence any time within twelve months. He was also ordered to pay costs, and to refund £1 to the second-hand dealer. JUVENILE COURT. FATHER’S JOB. Two young school boys were charged with stealing from a house in Church Street, 10 pennies, a purse, and a Put and Take of a total value of 12s. Mr A. J. Mallev said that the offenders were on friendly terms with the sou of the owner of the house, and had entered it last night and stolen the goods. Only a week previously they had stolen 4s 7d. In his opinion it would be a good thing if the boys were chastised as that would serve to impress them with the Wrongness of their act. The Magistrate agreed with the suggestion. Ho thought the chastising should be done by the fathers of the boys, and he adjourned the case for a week to allow this to be done.
