MacDonald and Mrs Allan, who have been amongst the guests at Warners, returned to Ashburton today. Departures from the United Service ihclude Mr and Mrs M. Andrews, of Wellington, who left for the south this morning. The engagement is announced of Miss Jean M. Mathieson, eldest daughter of Inspector and Mrs Mathieson, formerly of Christchurch and Dunedin, j to Mr W. W. Millar, of Invercargill. The. ladies’ comnyittee of the Scottish Society's Bazaar, to be held at the end ol November, are haying a plain and fancy dress dance in the Scottish Society’s rooms next Thursday, September 28. A band of four instruments will supply the music. It is intended to have the dance masquerade until 10 o’clock and* those wjio have no masks can procure them at the door for the small sum ol threepence. On Thursday a delightful afternoon was held in the Presbyterian school room| to do honour to Mrs H. Webb, who is about, to leave Lyttelton.
