A. sensation has been caused here in connection with a contract between Herr Stinnes and the General Federation of Co-operative Societies in the French devastated areas, to supply building and other reconstruction materials, valued at £130.000,000. Herr Stinnes’a concerns will make a profit of nix. per cent. The French presumably entered into this contract by virtue of the Wiesbaden and supplementary agreements, which came into operation on August 1, by which sufferers of •war losses in the devastated regions are entitled to negotiate direct with German firms for the supplies of materials, the cost of which may he debited against claims in respect t-o indemnitee, while German suppliers must secure payment from their own Government.
