LICENSING COMMITTEE.

CHRISTCHURCH. The quarterly meeting of the Christchurch Licensing Committee was held to dav: present—Alessrs H. Y. Widdowson. S.AI. (chairman). XV. H. Rose and K. Alathieson. Apologies for absence were received from Dr H. T. J. Thacker. XI.P.. and Air H. Holland. The chairman said the police reports were to the effect that the hotels, with the exception of three, were well con ducted. ‘I. suppose the licensees know how you report upafci them?” said the chairman, addressing Sub-Inspector J. K. Simpson. “If not, 1 must ask the clerk to send them notices.” The clerk said that unfavourable reports were sent to licensees. In respect to an application for the transfer of the Caledonian Hotel from C. E. Spedding to Samuel Binitey, tlic chairman said lie had been informed that women with children with them had been allowed to go into the hotel to obtain drink. Air XV. J. Hunter, who appeared in support of the application, said he did not think that occurred in hie client’s The chairman said that it wa-s reported to him that it had occurred. -The application was granted. An application for the transfer of the Club Hotel. Svdenham. from Thomas Af. Hart to 'Alfred J. Lawrence, was also granted.
