TO-DAY’S GASES. CHRISTCHURCH. Mr F. H. Christian. J.P. and Mr T. E. Fraser, J.P., presided at to-day’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court. DRUNK ENNESS. A lirst offender for drunkenness was fined os, in default 2-4 hours’ imprisonment. A DELATED PROSECUTION. George Winter (Mr K. M. Gresson), was charged with failing to provide his illegitimate child, born on September 17. 1918, with adequate maintenance. ,Sub-Tnspector J. K. Simpson applied for a remand until September 8. Mr Gresson said the defendant was arrested on warrant for an act that was four years old and to which he pleaded not guilty. He asked that hail be allowed. The Bench granted the remand and allowed the' defendant bail in one surety of £2o.

A MILKMAN’S ACCOUNTS. George Maiding, thirty-six years of age. was charged with having tailed to account to Frederick XT 1 rich for £o received from Roy Henderson,. £1 7s 6d from Charles William Borland. 17s from Belle C.’romb, and 10s from Nellie Ralsh, thereby committing theft. The accused, who was represented by Mr R. A. Cuthbert, pleaded guilty to the charges. Chief Detective A. Cameron said the accused was employed by the complainant t-o deliver milk and collect money on his behalf and account for and pay the same to the complainant. He had failed to do so and had collected in all nhout £3O. It was only fair to the accused to state that about £27 was owing to him in wages. The reason why the wages were still owing to him was because of his not having paid the money he Collected to his employer. Mr Cuthbert asked that the accused should be admitted to probation. TT*' said that as £27 was owing to the tion before the Court of restitution having to be made. HTie Bench : Ts there any proof that the £27 is owing in wages ? Mr Cuthbert said that that was admitted by the complainant. He added that the accused was thirty-six years of age and had had a clean record up to this happening. The Bench admitted the accused to probation for twelve months. Walding was also charged with having failed to comply with on order of the Court at Auckland for the maintenance of his wife and children, the arrears amounting to £253 18s. On the application of Chief-Detective Cameron, the defendant was' remanded to appear at Auckland on September 13. Bail was refused.
